Curly Maple – SOLD

You cannot tell if a certain tree will give you “curly” lumber until it is milled. Curly is when the tree experiences unusual twisting during it’s growth and/or when it grows in a way other than perfectly straight. This twisting and crookedness produces curly grain which appears to be 3D. This is because the hard and soft fibers of the wood alternate. Curly is rare and a bit more costly. I do my best to buy it when I see it because it makes gorgeous-looking boards. This particular board is curly maple with a red padauk accent strip down the middle.
