I love this part of woodworking! There’s so much thinking, planning, measuring, cutting, measuring again, and again, then sandinggggggggggggg. After I run through the grits, I spray water, that lifts up any cut fibers, then I sand again around 320. THENNNNN, the best part, treating the piece with oil! I prefer @walrusoil, it’s one and done! Nice productive weekend; 6 boards and about 40 coasters. Going display them nicely at @thewarddesigngroup office on St. Augustine Beach! I used lots of Purpleheart highlights, other woods are teak, Ipe, walnut, canary, and many others for the coasters. Lots of different sizes too.

So I made a few boards this weekend. After hand and arm surgery in December, it felt sooooo good to get back in the shop! A few of these are big, over 26” wide, and heavy! A few are close to 2” thick with deep juice grooves. One of these I’m keeping for myself! Can you guess which one? And can you guess what wood species is being used for the one that I’m keeping?

Most all of my boards have a nice smooth round edge very edge on top. This Freud quadcut round over bit continues to perform like new on many different types of hardwoods. Having good tools makes shop super fun!
